War and Nightmare

It was the war in the eye of the animals. My mother said, " Like the Israelites was attacking the Palestines."

It was drizzle in the late afternoon. We were just came back from my father's friend wedding. On the way back, I was still thinking about my geese's neck that has been swollen. Yup, I'm a little worried. Pity for her.

We arrived, just my mother step out from the car,she shouted and we heard dogs barking in our backyard. My father ran to the back of our house. Something had happen. Before this, sometimes we saw about six or seven dogs pass through our backyard. My heart was pounding. Quickly, I changed my clothes while my parents was still in the backyard.

I heard something shriek. It was a black pup. The other dogs probably has ran away when they heard our car coming in. My father was holding a small hoe and trying to chase away the pup. It was running back and forth and finally it get away. My father was inside the barn and walked around it to check our poultry. Two ducks was sitting still next to the basin of water and one of it had injured badly at her back. Another one was probably playing dead. The turkey was dead in the pail and her neck was broken. My father found one hen and half of her body was gone. And it was still alive, my father said. He asked us whether we want to see it. I couldn't dare to look at it. All was gone. All inside the barn was dead.

Suddenly, I remembered my cats. Where are they? I was cursing myself for letting them out for awhile, to let them played outside. I was scared and shaking the kibble bucket vigorously. Suddenly, they were running towards me from the lawn. Maybe they were hiding under the car. I felt relieved. They looked cautious and frightened.

Luckily, the two geese and the two ducks was safe inside the hedgerow that we put near to our house. A hen and her newborn chicks that was sitting on our cupboard was also safe. About half an hour later, a rooster and two hen coming out from nowhere. The tail feathers has gone and his coccyx was red. Then came out another two rooster. And their tails feathers was also gone and the coccyx was red too. One of them was badly injured. I suspected that the dogs was gabbing them from behind.

We were just staring at barnyard. Quite a long time. Even, my mother said she want to pee but she forgot it. The rain still drizzling. It was tragic. A nightmare to the animals and to us.  I can saw that from their eyes. The scene was like a post-war episode.

*Next days, the injured animals was dead and also the geese. I think the gander will be lonely after that.
